Christmas is full of things children love—decorated trees, presents, snowmen, reindeer, gingerbread houses, and, of course, Santa.
So why not turn some of that Christmas excitement into a relaxing coloring activity?
We’ve created a collection of free printable Christmas coloring pages for kids featuring cheerful holiday scenes designed especially for younger children.
Print a favorite page for a quick Christmas activity or download several to create your own holiday coloring book.
Free Christmas Coloring Pages to Print
Sometimes the simplest activities are the ones children enjoy most.
Give a child a box of crayons and a Christmas picture, and they can turn it into something completely their own.
Santa doesn’t have to wear red.
The Christmas tree doesn’t have to be green.
And there’s certainly no rule saying a reindeer can’t be purple!
Our printable collection includes a mixture of simple Christmas characters and complete holiday scenes, giving children different pictures to choose from depending on how much they enjoy coloring.
Santa Claus Coloring Page
It wouldn’t be a Christmas coloring collection without Santa.
Our Santa coloring page features a cheerful Santa dressed in his classic winter suit, carrying his big sack of presents and waving hello.
The large character and bold outlines make the picture approachable for younger children.
Kids can color Santa’s hat, coat, boots, mittens, gift sack, presents, and snowy surroundings.
Snowman Coloring Page
A happy snowman is another Christmas and winter favorite.
This printable features a friendly snowman wearing a winter hat, scarf, and mittens.
Large sections of the picture make it particularly suitable for children who are still developing their coloring control.
After coloring the snowman, encourage children to decorate the background or even draw some additional snowflakes of their own.
Christmas Tree Coloring Page
How would your child decorate their perfect Christmas tree?
Our Christmas tree coloring page features a large tree filled with ornaments, bows, candy canes, garlands, and stars, with beautifully wrapped presents waiting underneath.
Children can use a different color for every ornament or create their own repeating color pattern.
There are no wrong choices.
The finished tree can be as traditional—or as colorful—as they want.
Santa and Reindeer Christmas Coloring Page
Santa has brought a friend along for this one.
This festive page features Santa and a cute reindeer together in a snowy Christmas setting, surrounded by presents, evergreen trees, and a cozy house.
Children have several different Christmas elements to color while the characters remain large and easy to recognize.
It’s a nice middle ground between a very simple character page and one of the more detailed scenes in the collection.
Cozy Christmas Coloring Pages
Christmas isn’t only about what’s happening outside in the snow.
One of our coloring pages brings the holiday fun indoors with a cozy Christmas scene featuring a decorated tree, fireplace, stockings, presents, a child, and a cuddly teddy bear.
There are plenty of individual details to color while the bold line-art style keeps the picture child-friendly.
This can make a lovely quiet-time activity during a busy December afternoon.
Why Coloring Is a Great Christmas Activity
December can be exciting—and sometimes very busy—for young children.
Coloring provides a simple activity that doesn’t require complicated instructions or lots of supplies.
All you really need is:
- A printed coloring page
- Crayons, colored pencils, or washable markers
- A comfortable place to color
That’s it.
Coloring also gives young children an opportunity to practice controlling a crayon or pencil, choosing colors, working within larger shapes, and completing a picture at their own pace.
Most importantly, it should be enjoyable.
Make Your Own Christmas Coloring Book
Instead of printing just one picture, turn the whole collection into a homemade Christmas coloring book for kids.
Print several of your favorite pages and staple them together.
Children can color one page each day in the lead-up to Christmas or work through the book whenever they need a quiet indoor activity.
You could even add a blank sheet to the front and let children design their own Christmas coloring-book cover.
Write their name on it, add stickers, and let them decorate it however they like.
Suddenly, a few printable pages become their own little Christmas book.
Christmas Coloring Activities for the Classroom
Teachers can easily incorporate these printables into December classroom activities.
Keep several designs available and allow children to choose their favorite rather than giving everyone the same picture.
The pages can be used for:
Christmas activity centers, early-finisher activities, quiet work, indoor recess, holiday parties, morning activities, or simple take-home printables.
Finished pictures can also become easy classroom Christmas decorations.
Hang them on a bulletin board or create a gallery of everyone’s differently decorated Christmas trees.
Christmas Coloring at Home
Parents don’t need to plan an elaborate craft every day of December.
Sometimes printing a coloring page is enough.
Keep a few Christmas pages nearby for rainy afternoons, quiet time, playdates, holiday travel, or whenever your child asks for something to do.
You can also put a small selection of crayons and printed pages on the children’s table during a Christmas gathering.
It’s an easy activity that children can start and stop whenever they like.
Let Kids Color Their Own Way
A toddler might scribble across the entire Christmas tree.
A preschooler might carefully color every ornament a different shade.
A kindergartener might spend twenty minutes deciding exactly what color each present should be.
They’re all perfectly valid ways to use these pages.
There’s no need for a Christmas tree to be green or Santa’s suit to be red.
Coloring is much more fun when children are allowed to make creative choices.
So print a page, bring out the crayons, and let them create their own version of Christmas.
